Maoist national cadres� assembly today

KATHMANDU, Nov 21 - Maoist National Cadres’ Assembly is due to kick off Friday at Kharipati-based training center of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) in Bhaktapur district that is expected to adopt the party’s future strategy.

Two separate documents presented by the party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Maoist ideologue Mohan Baidya will be tabled at the assembly, sources said.

CA chair urges political parties not to raise dispute over army integration

KATHMANDU, Nov 20 - Constituent Assembly (CA) chairman Subash Chandra Nemwang Thursday urged the political parties not to raise disputes as the army integration is done as per the process.

Speaking at a proramme organised by Dhankuta chapter of Press Chautari this morning, Nemwang said that there is no reason to raise dispute as the process is clearly mentioned in the agreement concerning the army integration.

Chairman Nemwang opined that the newly formed Army Integration Special Committee (AISC) will finalise the issue of the integration.

Kerosene use falls by half

KATHMANDU, Nov 20 - With both kerosene and diesel costing the same since Nov. 1, consumption of kerosene has dropped by more than half.

According to Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC), the nation consumed only 1641 kilolitres of kerosene in the first two weeks of November while consumption stood at 3724 KL in the last two weeks of October.

On Nov. 1, NOC slashed the price of diesel from Rs. 70 per litre to Rs. 65, the retail price of kerosene.

Demonstration continues in capital, Dhading district

KATHMANDU, Nov 20 - Protestors who have called valley strike Thursday have obstructed transportation at Chabhil, Kalanki, Mitrapark, Bafal, Koteshwor, Baneshwor, Minbhawan and other areas in the capital this morning.

Protestors have been launching demonstrations from yesterday at different places of the capital, Dhadhing district and other places of the country against the killing of two youths Pushkar Dangol and Nirmal Pant by Maoist youth wing Young Communist League (YCL).

Stop child abuse in police custody: HRW

KATHMANDU, Nov 20 - New York-based Human Rights Watch (HRW) has, on the occasion of International Children's Day on Nov. 20, called on the government to urgently address the problem of widespread torture and ill-treatment of children in police custody.

"So far, in 2008, Human Rights Watch has received credible claims of more than 200 cases of torture or abuse committed by members of Nepal Police against boys and girls, some as young as 13," said HRW in a statement.
